Cecilia Richard

March 6, 1936 — November 21, 2024

Cecilia A. Richard, 88, of Serena, passed away on November 21, 2024.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Gladfelter-Roetker Funeral Home is assisting the family.

Cecilia was born on March 6, 1936, in Dixon, Illinois, the daughter of James and Eileen (Ruth) Green, and one of five close-knit Catholic siblings. She married Alan Richard in 1955 and they settled in Serena. She was a dedicated union member through her many years at Union Carbide, where she trailblazed as one of the first five women hired; and at the United States Postal Service, where she worked well into her seventies. Cecilia was a voracious reader and was rarely seen without a book. She was a Friend of the Library at the Newark branch and was very involved in the library community. In her spare time, she enjoyed going to the movies, bowling and spending time with her sister Ruthie on their casino adventures. Cecilia was also a lifetime dog lover, always with a furry companion (or two) by her side. More than anything, family was most important to her and she will be dearly missed by those who loved her.

Cecilia is survived by her children, Steve (Patti) Richard, Lori (Robert) Hoffman and Mark Richard; a brother, Joseph Green; a sister, Ruthie Roberge; five grandchildren: Daniel, Titus, and Jared Richard, Lydia Kent, and Shelby DiPerri; and nine great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Alan; a brother, James Green, and a sister, Mary Tully.
