Clyde C. Kelley

March 3, 1950 — September 18, 2025

Clyde C. Kelley, 75, of Ottawa, Illinois, passed away peacefully on September 18, 2025, at Lightways Hospice Home in Joliet, Illinois, surrounded by his loving family after a courageous battle with Leukemia. Throughout his treatment, Clyde displayed incredible strength and unwavering faith in his savior Jesus Christ, inspiring those around him.

Born March 3, 1950, Clyde was the son of Snowden J. Kelley and Mary (Paul) Kelley. He married the love of his life, Merry Grizzell on May 13, 1972, in Grove City, Ohio, and together they shared 53 years of devoted marriage.

Clyde is survived by his devoted wife, Merry, and children: Brian, Carrie Kelley, Merry Beth DeBernardi (John), & daughter-in-law, Denise Newman Kelley; Grandchildren: Jake Skelton (Zoe), Christian Price (Ashley), Elena, Layne, & Ireland Kelley, Cameryn Price (Blake) and Hannah DeBernard, as well as great-grandchildren: Malia Mae, Marlie & Lincoln and his "Fur-grandbaby" Daisy. Also, leaving behind sisters, Hedy Cullen and Jean Letner and brother, Bill.

Clyde was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Eric; brothers, Howard, Jim & Ernest; and a sister Alverta Drake.

Clyde retired from Exelon (formerly Commonwealth Edison) as a Nuclear Power Plant Operator & Engineer in Radiation Protection and Outage Planning & Management. He was admired for his drive, professional expertise, and deep passion for his work. His dedication and integrity left a lasting impression on colleagues and loved ones alike. Clyde was a very studious man particularly in the areas of math, science, and technical problem solving, with a life-long philosophy of never stop learning.

Clyde was a devoted fan of the Chicago Cubs, Bears, and Bulls and of course, The Ohio State Buckeyes, and found joy intending to his yard and garden. He especially loved picking black raspberries and making homemade jelly. Known for his quick wit and endless supply of silliness, he kept everyone around him laughing. Clyde was always ready to lend a helping hand-whether it was household maintenance or repairs-and his generosity knew no bounds. Above all, he cherished his wife, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and beloved family pets. He worked tirelessly to ensure his loved ones were cared for, never allowing anyone to go without.

A celebration of life will be held in Columbus, Ohio on October 25, 2025. A candlelight memorial service will be held in the near future at the First Assembly of God in Ottawa, Illinois.
