George Kenneth "Kenny" Hicks, 80, of Ottawa, passed away on November 28, 2025, at OSF St. Elizabeth Ottawa.
Funeral services will be on Friday, December 5, at 6 pm at Gladfelter-Roetker Funeral Home with Reverend Seamus Enright officating. Visitation will be from 4-6 pm on Friday at the funeral home. Military rites will be accorded by the American Legion Post 33 Honor Guard.
Kenny was born on May 10, 1945, in Ottawa, the son of George and Evelyn (Burrows) Hicks. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army with service in Korea. Kenny married Ethel Grooms on March 20, 1971, at the First Baptist Church in Ottawa. He was a proud carpenter with the Local 150 and retired after his many years with them. In his free time, Kenny enjoyed model trains, fishing, and woodworking, often giving his crafts away to people. He enjoyed gardening, watching NASCAR and restoring Chevy muscle cars. Kenny was a people person. He enjoyed interacting with people and sharing his stories. He never met a stranger. Kenny will be missed by his family and his friends.
Kenny is survived by his wife, Ethel; children, Wendy Dose, and Brian (Carrie) Hicks; grandchildren, Jakob (Presslie) Weiss, Bryce (Emerald) Hicks, Charleigh Hicks, Kasey Dose, Jennifer Raridon, and Nikki (Mike) Wall; and great grandchild, Bristol Wall. He was preceded in death by his parents, Evelyn and George Hicks; a brother Wayne A. Hicks; and a brother in infancy, Tommy Hicks.
