OTTAWA - Guido Franzetti, age 86, of Phoenix, Arizona, formerly of Ottawa, passed away Wednesday, February 1, 2012 at the Illinois Veterans Home in LaSalle. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, February 4 at St. Columba Church with the Rev. David M. Kipfer celebrating. Vocal music for the Mass will be provided by Molly Grauer, Guido's great-niece. Entombment will follow at the Shrine of Rest Mausoleum at Oakwood Memorial Park. In honor of Guido's service to his country, military honors will be provided by the U.S. Navy and Ottawa Veterans Organization. Committal services will conclude with a dove release ceremony. Visitation will begin with prayers at 4:00 p.m. and conclude at 7:00 p.m. Friday at Gladfelter Funeral Home. A Remembrance Service will begin at 6:00 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Guido was born September 23, 1925 at Naplate, Illinois, a son of Fiorvanti and Jennie (Pini) Franzetti. He married Linda Campbell December 11, 1957 at Iowa City, Iowa. Guido is survived by Linda, his loving wife of 54 years; his adoring daughters, Kim Healy Franzetti and Diana "Dee Dee" Franzetti Straziscar both of Phoenix, Arizona. He also leaves grandchildren, Lexy Franzetti of Wantage, New Jersey, Victoria "Torre" Healy of West Hollywood, California and Landon Straziscar of Phoenix. A brother, Ario and a sister, Theresa Consalvo preceded Guido in death. Guido was a member of St. Columba Church in Ottawa. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He retired from Libbey Owens Ford as a member of Local 19 United Glassworkers. Guido lived his entire life in Ottawa. After retirement, he and Linda enjoyed wintering in Arizona and eventually established residence in Arizona in 2004. A sports enthusiast, Guido managed Boy Scout softball teams in earlier years. He played in the First National Softball League, winning the tournament. He also enjoyed boating, playing golf and had a deep appreciation of automobiles. In keeping with his love of sports, Guido followed the Chicago White Sox, Black Hawk Hockey and the L.A. Raiders. Guido also had a deep appreciation of the arts. He enjoyed theater, music and opera, particularly Pavaratti and Bocelli. He was known in the Ottawa area as an extraordinary dancer. Guido was a very generous man contributing his time and talent in many areas. He assisted daughter Kim in various philanthropic ventures including Fellowship for the local church in Phoenix, Crisis Nursery and confirmation preparation. He will be deeply missed by all. The family suggests memorial contributions in Guido's name be made to Martha's Vineyard at the Illinois Veterans Home in LaSalle for resident clothing or reclining chairs.
