Herbert Henry Davis Jr.

Herbert "Herbie" Davis Jr., 76, of Ottawa, passed away on August 19, 2025, at Parker Nursing Home in Streator with his family at his side.

Visitation will be on Saturday August 23, from 9-11 a.m. at Gladfelter-Roetker Funeral Home. Funeral services will follow with Jane Schomas officiating.

Herbie was born on July 11, 1949, the son of Herbert and Naoma (Winchester) Davis Sr. in Portsmouth, Virginia. He married Trinette Denen on July 23, 1994 in Ottawa. Herbie worked as a construction worker for Laborer Union Local 393 and Local 75 for many years. He enjoyed the great outdoors whether it be in the mountains, hunting, fishing, or canoeing, nature was his element. Herbie was known for his story telling as well as his quick wit and jokes. He was always trying to make people smile. Herbie was also an excellent cook which he loved to teach and pass down to his family. Family was the most important thing to Herbie. He took great pride in mentoring them through life's many facets, always close enough to offer protection but allowing them to learn from some mistakes from time to time. He was a wonderful Papa to his grandchildren and will be dearly missed.

Herbie is survived by his wife, Trinette; children, Clint (Cari) Davis, Bryanna (Davis) Kolesar, Michelle (Rodney) Fleming, and Tiffany (Chris) Link; a sister, Lynn Davis; grandchildren, Colton and Clayton Davis, Christopher Davis, and Corina and Calie Kolesar, Luke, Allyson, and Matt Fleming, Austin and Jace Link,; great-grandchildren, Adeline Richardson and Aspen Poe; and his father-in-law, Robert Denen; brothers-in-law, Ronald Denen, Rick (Joyce) Denen, and Randy (Sue) Denen; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.
