OTTAWA – Homer Launius, 84, of Ottawa, passed away Wednesday, September 2, 2015 at his home.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, September 5, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at Gladfelter Funeral Home with Pastor Garry Briesacher officiating. Burial will follow in Oakwood Memorial Park. Visitation will be held Friday evening from 4:00 p.m. till 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Pallbearers will be Andre Encinas, Keith Erickson, Angel Conteras, David Kovar, Bob Schramm and Michael Launius.
Homer was born October 29, 1930 in Maldin, Missouri, the son of William and Sylvia (House) Launius. He married Romelle Louise Bedecker on November 9, 1957, in Streator. Surviving are his wife of 57 years, Romelle, of Ottawa; his children, Diane Launius of Streator and Richard (Beverly) Launius of Sandwich; his grandchildren, Pamela, Michael, and Nicole Launius, all of Sandwich; and his sister, Geraldine Garrison of Campbell. MO. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Ira and Calvin; and two sisters, Mabel Wright and Katherine Miner.
Homer was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church. He was also a former member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Homer was a United States Marine Corp Veteran proudly and honorably serving his country during the Korean Conflict. He was a 35 year employee of Culligan Water Conditioning of Ottawa and later of Magic Muffler as well as Home Hardware. In his spare time, Homer loved to tinker with lawn mowers. His most cherished times were those spent with his family, especially his grandchildren.
