Jerry Robert Jeffries

OTTAWA – Jerry Robert Jeffries, age 78, of Ottawa, passed away Monday morning, March 16, 2015 at his home.

Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m. Thursday, March 19, 2015 at Gladfelter Funeral Home with Reverend David M. Kipfer officiating.  Visitation will be from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.  Interment with Military Honors will be in St. Columba Cemetery at a later date.  Pallbearers will be Jared Lawrence, Jamie Cabrera, John Jeffries, Steve Almeda, Scott Lawry and Jon Stalker.

Jerry was born March 20, 1936 in Rochelle, Illinois, a son of Clyde and Mildred (Comparon) Jeffries.  He married Eleanor “Josie” Almeda March 2, 1963 at Morris, Illinois.  Surviving are his wife, Josie of Ottawa; daughters, Tina Marie (Scott) Lawry and Vicki (Jon) Stalker all of Ottawa.  He also leaves sisters, Carol Woods and Charlene Jeffries of Ottawa; grandchildren, Kassi and Lainey Parrott, Lexi Lawry, Paige and Sydnee Stalker; and great-grandchildren, Clayton and Charlee Saager and Chloe Thrush.  He was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers, Bill, his twin Jim, Jon “Mick”, Clyde “Bud” and Richard Jeffries; and one sister, Jean Fox.

Jerry was a member of St. Columba Church, Moose Lodge #960, and the American Legion.  He proudly served in the U.S. Army from 1959-1965.  Jerry was a loving father and grandfather.  He particularly loved having the grandchildren around and watching their various sporting events.  A man of varied interests, Jerry enjoyed tinkering in his garage, gardening, mowing lawns, swimming and cooking.
