Kahla L. Boe, age 61, of Ottawa, passed away Sunday, October 5, 2025 surrounded by her loving family.
Kahla was born March 28, 1964 in Ottawa, Illinois to James and Joyce (Herzog) Crawford. She married Michael Boe on August 15, 1987 at St. Mary's Church in Naplate. Kahla is survived by her husband of 38 years, Mike; her adoring son James Michael Boe of Ottawa; and her sisters Joan M. Quillin of Naplate and Cindy (Walt) Weiland of Foley, Alabama. She also leaves nieces Dr. Sarah J. Quillin and Kelly C. Quillin both of Chicago; an uncle Ron DeGeare of Naplate; as well as a cousin, Kim (DeGeare) Da Silva of Peoria; and her beloved feline Rusty Rue.
During early married life, Kahla and Mike were avid boaters. Kahla and Mike enjoyed taking family vacations; Siesta Key beach in Florida and loved traveling with her son, James, to Walt Disney and Universal Studios and sharing new experiences with him. For the Boe family, the road of adventure started when James was young and continued through his adult life. Kahla enjoyed planning these adventures a year or two in advance. Memorable trips included; Wilderness Lodge, Kalahari Resort, Mount Rushmore, Niagra Falls, St. Louis for Cubs/Cards baseball games, Branson, Missouri and Gatlinburg/Pigeon Forge. As parents, they wanted James to have travel adventures they did not experience growing up. They gave James an awesome opportunity to visit Italy and Greece during the summer of 2019.
Many of Kahla's joyous times were; making her homemade spaghetti sauce in "the cauldron" and her "family loved" lasagna and decorating her home for Christmas. She will be remembered for decorating several Christmas trees and baking numerous types of Christmas cookies; celebrating the new year with a special New Year's Eve family dinner; and buying red geraniums in the spring. Kahla treasured time spent with her loving family. She was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Ottawa.
Kahla served as the Health Information Management Director at St. Mary's Hospital in Streator and most recently at Morris Hospital. She was a member of AHIMA.
