Marilyn B. Irmis

Marilyn (Benya) Irmis, 76, of Ottawa, formerly of Westmont, passed away at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria on April 9, 2026.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, April 15, at St. Columba Church with Monsignor Mark Merdian officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Joe, Mario, Mark and Matt Bernabei, and Jimmy, John and Joe Irmis.

Marilyn was born on July 24, 1949, in Granville, the daughter of John and Elizabeth (Ernat) Benya. She graduated from Marquette High School and later married John Irmis. He preceded her in death on June 19, 2011. Marilyn worked at Mid America Savings and Loan and later worked part time at a jewelry store. She had a great appreciation for jewelry and enjoyed collecting it. She enjoyed cooking and loved to eat at Rips Chicken. She enjoyed traveling as well with Myrtle Beach being one of her favorite destinations. She loved her family and enjoyed spending time with them. She will be greatly missed.

Marilyn is survived by her sister, Joan Bernabei; brother, Michael Benya; nephews, Mark and Matt Bernabei, and Jimmy, John and Joe Irmis; a niece, Julia Irmis; great nephews, Joe and Mario Bernabei; and great nieces, Lilliana, Ella, and Margaret Bernabei; a brother in law, Jim (Beth) Irmis; and her friend and caretaker, Sheri Higgins.
