OTTAWA - Mary Ellen Krug, 83, of rural Dayton Twp., Ottawa, passed away Sunday, April 13, 2014 at OSF St. Elizabeth Medical Center.
At Mary’s request, there will be no funeral services or visitation. Private burial was in West Serena Cemetery. Gladfelter Funeral Home was honored to handle arrangements.
Mary was born December 24, 1930, in Livingston County, Ill., to Leslie R. and Nellie L. (Munson) Nicol. She married Merle LaVerne Krug of Ottawa, on April 2, 1950, in Ottawa. He preceded her in death April 4, 2008. Mary was raised a city girl and came to the country to take on the duties of a farmer's wife. She loved the challenge of learning all the aspects of the farming life. Over the years she did a lot of sewing, mending and ironing for people. Mary loved gardening, canning, baking and cooking big meals for her family. She enjoyed planting and taking care of her flowers. Mary took pride in her special friendship with her daughter Nancy. She treasured time spent with her grandchildren Rebecca and Terry and their children Coltyn and Austin.
She is survived by a daughter, Nancy Krug of Ottawa; two sons, Roger (Glenda) Krug and Rodney Krug all of Ottawa; eight grandchildren, Rebecca (Terry) Krug, Jeremy (Rachel) Krug, Callie (Ryan) Riveland, Mallary Friestad, Molly (Eric) Anderson, Courtney Eddie Levy) Krug, Megan (Mike) Crutchett and Ashley Krug; and six great-grandchildren; one sister, Marjorie (Earl) Daugherty of Ottawa; a brother, Glenn Nicol of Stanley, Wisconsin.
Her parents; step-mother, Lucille Nicol; a sister, Alice Mathison , and a brother, Francis Nicol, preceded her in death.
