Mary Wetmore

September 21, 1956 — April 7, 2012

OTTAWA - Mary E. (Whalen) Wetmore, age 55, of Ottawa, passed away Saturday evening at her residence. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 a.m. Thursday, April 12th at St. Columba Church with Rev. Ray Guthrie celebrating. Interment will follow in Oakwood Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Gladfelter Funeral Home with a Prayer Service at 3:45 p.m. Wednesday. Pallbearers will be Jerry, John and Jeff Whalen, Brian Brinkmeier, Ken Corcoran and Ken Bock. Mary was born September 21, 1956 in Ottawa, Illinois, a daughter of John and Margaret (Meagher) Whalen. She is survived by her daughter, Jill Wetmore of Ottawa; four sisters, Jane Whalen of Glen Ellyn, her twin sister Julie (Brian) Brinkmeier of Pearl City, Patricia (Ken) Corcoran of Sandwich and Anne Whalen of Naperville. Her long time friend, Tom Knott of Ottawa and several nieces also survive. Mary was preceded in death by her parents, grandparents and a brother, Vince Whalen. Mary was a member of St. Columba Church. She was a homemaker and had worked for the Illinois Department of Human Services. Mary enjoyed travel, especially the trips to watch Jill's tennis matches. She enjoyed watching sports, particularly the Bulls and Cubs. She dearly cherished time spent with her family and especially loved to decorate her house when entertaining family and friends. Memorial contributions may be made to the Jill Wetmore Education Scholarship Fund or the Susan G. Komen for the Cure for Breast Cancer Research.
