Nathan August "Nippy" Barnhardt, age 86, of Ottawa, passed away 9:54 p.m. Saturday, July 9, 2011 at Ottawa Pavilion. Graveside services will be held at 9:00 a.m. on Monday, July 18, 2011 at Ottawa Avenue Cemetery. Gladfelter Funeral Home is assisting with arrangements. Nathan was born September 24, 1924 at Cincinnati, Ohio, a son of Nathan Robert and Emma (Duke) Barnhardt. He married Caroline Barnhardt September 2, 1963 at Ottawa, Illinois. She preceded him in death October 5, 2001. Mr. Barnhardt was a veteran of the U.S. Navy. He had worked in various circuses as a clown named"Nippy."
