Everett Olmstead Obituary

Everett W. Olmstead, age 83, of Earlville, passed away Saturday April 18, 2020 and Wilma J. Olmstead, age 81, passed away Friday, May 14, 2021 at their residence, surrounded by their loving family.

 

Visitation for Everett and Wilma will be from 4:00 to 7:00 P.M. followed by a memorial service at 7:00 P.M. Saturday, May 29th at Gladfelter-Roetker Funeral Home.  Masonic Rites will be conducted at 6:45PM.

 

Everett was born February 4, 1937 in Ottawa, Illinois, the son of Howard and Dorothy (Eastergord) Olmstead.   Wilma was born September 10, 1939 in Mendota, Illinois, a daughter of Howard and Wenona (Peve) Whipple  They were married on May 22, 1960 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Mendota.  Surviving are their daughters, LeAnne Meiners of Oglesby, Julie (Robert, Jr.) Hoover of Earlville and Wanda Rohl of Peru.  Everett and Wilma also leave grandchildren, Stephanie (Travis) Skul-Wassell, Cas (Amber Wheeler) Siler, Mason Kember, Austin Kember, Jacob Meiners, Clayton Olmstead and Tyler Rohl and five great-grandchildren. Everett leaves a sister, Mavis (Donald) LeBeau of Mesa, AZ and Wilma leaves a sister, JoAnne (David) Sondgeroth of Mendota.  Both were preceded in death by their parents and Wilma's stepmother Gertrude Whipple-Nance.

 

Everett was a 1955 graduate of Serena High School. He belonged to Marseilles Masonic Lodge #417, a past Worshipful Master of Freedom Lodge #194 AF&AM. Both were members of the Harding United Methodist Church.  Everett proudly served his country in the U.S. Army Reserves.  Everett was a farmer and operated Olmstead Trucking and was an avid collector of John Deere toy tractors.  Everett and Wilma were bus drivers for Community Unit District #2 for many years.  Wilma was a 1958 graduate from Mendota High School. She worked as a nurses aid at Mendota Hospital were she met her great friend Marion Schammel. She had been employed as a rural carrier for the U.S. Postal Service in Ottawa and Seneca, Council member of Bethel #52 Job's Daughters. She also was a long time member of LaSalle/Grundy Rural Letter Carriers. Everett and Wilma dearly loved their family and will be deeply missed.
