Wendell C. Vatland

Wendell C. Vatland, age 82, of Serena, passed away Tuesday, June 20, 2023 at OSF St. Elizabeth Medical Center, Ottawa.

Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday, June 24th at Gladfelter-Roetker Funeral Home with Pastor Shayne Stoddard officiating. Interment will follow in DeBolt Cemetery near Wedron. Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. until time of services at 2:00 p.m. Pallbearers will be Dave, Wesley and Matthew Vatland, Anthony Borris, Christopher Hoxsey and Jared Jackson. Honorary pallbearers will be Darrell and Kevin Leslie and Doug and Scott Reibel.

Wendell was born November 2, 1940 in Wedron, Illinois, a son of Torleif 'Ted' and Lorraine (Ryg) Vatland. He married Sylvia Hoxsey October 3, 1959 at St. Patrick's Church in Ottawa. Wendell is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Sylvia; his children, Wendy Vatland of Naplate, Steve Vatland of Stroud, OK, Roger (Cheryl Despain) Vatland of Serena and Craig (Malinda DeBolt) Vatland also of Serena. He also leaves grandchildren, David, Ashley, Wesley, Morgan and Matthew; great-grandchildren, Kinley, Kainen, Kasen and Jett; and two sisters, Jeanette (Bill) Leslie of Ottawa and Karen Reibel of Newark.

Wendell was a retired employee of Caterpillar Tractor Company. He was a dedicated family man and was very proud of his Norwegian heritage
