OTTAWA – William Hugh Belford, age 69, of Ottawa, passed away Saturday, February 3, 2018 at Edward Hines Jr. Veterans Hospital in Hines, Illinois.
Funeral services will be held at noon on Friday, February 9, 2018 at Gladfelter Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Oakwood Memorial Park. Military rites will be accorded by the Ottawa American Legion Post 33 Veterans Group Honor Guard. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. till service time on Friday morning at the funeral home.
William was born October 3, 1948 in Bloomington, Illinois, the son of John and Floria (Vancleave) Belford. He married Eleanor Rose Crane on April 28, 1989 in Ottawa. She survives.
William enlisted in the United States Army on March 30, 1970 where he served in Viet Nam and earned many medals, including two Purple Hearts for wounds received in action. After leaving the Army, he served in the Army Reserves until retiring on October 3, 2008 and was a lifelong member of the VFW.
William loved his time spent working in his yard.
