Claire Ione Shaver

Claire “Duke” Shaver, age 96, of Ottawa, passed away Saturday, October 9th at Park Pointe Healthcare and Rehab Center in Morris.

Private services will be held at Gladfelter-Roetker Funeral Home. Interment will be in Riverview Cemetery in Marseilles. Pallbearers will be Daniel and Darren Bedeker, William and Kett Johnson, Ronald Atchley and Julius DeFoer.

Claire was born January 10, 1925 in Springfield, Illinois, a daughter of Charles Lee and Lonely Eva (Workman) Atchley. She married Weldon Shaver April 4, 1947 in Marseilles. He preceded her in death, after 60 years of marriage, April 12, 2007. She is survived by several nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, 2 brothers, 3 sisters, a niece and a great-nephew.

Claire was a 1944 graduate of Marseilles High School and was a member of Evangelical United Methodist Church. She was a busy homemaker and served as a volunteer at Easter Seals in Ottawa for 17 years. In her leisure, Claire enjoyed reading, knitting and crochet.
