Emilio Gusman, 95, of Aurora, formerly of Ottawa, was called to be with the Lord Monday, January 22, 2024, with his loving family by his side.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held Noon Tuesday, January 30, 2024 at St. Patrick's Church in Ottawa with Monsignor Mark Merdian celebrating. Burial with military honors by the Ottawa American Legion Post 33 Honor Guard will follow in St. Columba Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Ryan Albert, James Capparelli, Jason Blinstrup, Jimmy Cisneros, John Cisneros and Jeff Cisneros. Visitation will be from 10:00 to 11:30 AM at Gladfelter-Roetker Funeral Home which is honored to serve the Gusman family.
Emilio was born December 11, 1928 in DePue, Illinois to Rafael and Faustina (Lopez) Guzman. On November 25, 1950, Emilio met the love of his life, Josephine Hortega at a wedding. The happy couple married October 2, 1954 at St. Patrick's Church in Sheffield, Illinois. Josephine preceded him in death September 19, 2013.
Emilio proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War. He provided for his family by working in construction. Emilio was a man of deep faith in God and was an avid parishioner at St. Patrick's Church in Ottawa. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, VFW and Ottawa American Legion Post 33 where he proudly served on the Honor Guard. Emilio and Josephine always enjoyed seeing and catching up with their many friends at dances hosted by the Ottawa Senior Center or meeting up at Cracker Barrel or Wal-Mart.
Emilio leaves his loving daughter, Janice Cisneros; adoring grandchildren, Jessica (Jason Blinstrup) Cisneros, Joanna (Ryan) Albert and Jenna (James) Capparelli; and precious great-grandchildren, Eva, Emma and Colin Jenaro Albert. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Adolph Guzman and a son-in-law, Jerry Cisneros.
